Alconbury weald skatepark
Beyond the concrete - complimenting the surround
Collaborating with BMD landscape designers to create a community hub that integrates seamlessly into the surroundings
CANVAS was approached by Bradley Murphy Design (BMD) with the task of creating a community hub within the residential area of Alconbury Weald, in Huntingdon.
To meet the project brief, the aesthetic of Alconbury skatepark had to be sympathetic to its surroundings. Through a wide design approach, CANVAS was able to create a skatepark that seamlessly integrated into the space.”
The design consists of a mixture of street and transition elements of different sizes and speeds, making the skatepark perfect for all ages and abilities.”
A small green space sits in the middle, with the skatepark revolving around this. This lends itself to a continuous layout, allowing users to piece together one long line or use each obstacle individually.

Based within a new housing estate, this project is an example of a concrete skatepark project using varied materials and finishes to produce a facility that integrates with its surround. Soft landscaping, seating and footpath networks integrate this space with the surrounding facilities.
